Fridges today are disposable?

Why do fridges today cost ~>$1k and last only ~5 years? Most only come with 12mo parts/labor?!? Why cant I choose to start the warranty (around the 4.5 year mark)?

Our 6 year old LG lmxs28626s /01 refrigerator stopped cooling. LG only offered me repair starting at $350. I may have considered buying a new LG fridge with a newer model compressor if they would have waived that repair fee - or at least refunded me $350 for the food that spoiled. After doing some research, and with the water on the floor, I thought it was the ice maker. Bad news, I then discovered that the fridge was not cooling/freezing. My Compressor was running but no cold air. LG has a known issue with their compressors being trash. A also read somewhere that if you get 5 years out of an LG you've done alright. 5 year warranty on compressors. So that means I am on the hook for labor. They cover compressor costs.

***Avoid Samsung/LG "FL/FLC" linear compressors! what kind of compressor does it have? Some brands use other brands compressors! (LG has fixed their compressor issue? Not all LG products sold today have the better compressor- need to be careful! 5 years typical warranty); any in-door water/ice dispenser is high risk!!!

I talked to my friends and neighbors to get any possible insight and the path forward. I checked facebook marketplace, nextdoor, and offerup. I also checked 2 local scratch and dent/repair shops. Pricing seemed too high, didn't have models that I wanted, or weren't appealing.

Things that I needed to consider: styling of steel to match our other appliances, and make sure it fits or matches our current fridge: 71 tall, 37.5 wide, 36 deep.

I went to my local big box scratch and dent options to check availability (see below). I took a photo of each of the model numbers so that I can research. Once I had at least 3 options. I then asked AI what the top 3 options were from the list I provided. It also chose the same 3 I did!

improving your chances on getting noticed?

 

My neighbor told me last weekend that he read recently that filling in the gaps in your experience history (on LinkedIn and on your resume) may help you in getting dropped from being overlooked by recruiters or bots that scan your resume. Desperate times call for desperate measures so, even if you have to 'creatively' fill in some of the gaps, it may be worth it to get yourself an interview.

So I was being lazy and I didnt worry about updating my LinkedIN profile - or my resume that I was sending out - with the latest things that I have been working on. My thought was that my experience would qualify me for an interview and make me a better candidate. I did update my LinkedIN with 3 things that would help fill in the gaps since my last corporate job. Within two business days a recruiter reached out to me directly on LinkedIN, then called me directly to do a 15min phonecall to ask me some basic questions and to let me know the hiring manager would be calling me sometime in the next 2 weeks. He called me that Friday (just 3 days later)! *YMMV

The response I got was much larger, but this was the gist from - https://chat.openai.com  -  Medications such as Donepezil, Memantine, and Solifenacin can have side effects related to confusion, dizziness, and weakness.


During my research I did find that lexapro/Escitalopram, and with similar selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors(SSRIs), you do not combine with any diuretic medicine or water pills, it causes low sodium/hyponatremia - causes constant headaches, long lasting confusion or weakness, frequent muscle cramps, and more.


Other related examples:
Yeah I asked it some questions about management like complicated uti and variations in the same vein. It was about 75% accurate.
I asked the Bing version to write me a sample prior authorization letter for Restasis.
I have used it to write letters to insurance companies to appeal denials or to justify medical necessity. Not bad for those routine mind numbing tasks.
I asked it to write a script for a documentary about a podiatrist and a patient presenting with specific symptoms. It described the examination steps and potential causes of the symptoms.

*It may not be safe to use at the moment. Chat gpt is really good at putting together answers that look like they might be accurate but aren’t. Combined with its propensity to just… make up papers I’d be very cautious about using it for clinical work. It’s just not there yet.

Because of the 2 different email addresses, and the fact that the domains of the emails do not resolve correctly, I thought it could be a scam. But, I did reach out to their Skype address and did their text interview on Friday - which seemed real. I then filled out some forms and they sent me an email check Monday for supplies (laptop, internet service, etc) $13,839.09 to deposit. After depositing it, I called the issuing bank to see if the check was real, they asked me for the name of the company, the amount, and the numbers at the bottom of the check. They said it is indeed fake. Yikes!

Tuesday update:
I called my bank today to see if there is anything that I need to do to protect myself - and to make sure my account is protected. They told me that they will check with their security team and call me back.
Doris asked me to deposit a new check that is specifically meant for Bank of America. I responded that I called the issuing bank and they said that this check is not valid. I told her to send me a valid check.

2/6/23 Update: My bank took almost 30 days to notify me that the check bounced!

Are there no systems in place to protect bank customers?
When making a mobile deposit, could there be a prompt that says "If you have any doubt on whether the check is real, call the issuing bank to see if it is valid."?
Are there no systems in place to apprehend the criminals?
Why do banks, state and federal law enforcement not have a team that handles these types of crimes?
Why does it seem that the user/customer bears most of the risk, problems and pain?
