KIVA.org - microfinance lending
I just made a loan to someone in the developing world using a revolutionary new website called Kiva. You can go to Kiva's website and lend to someone in the developing world who needs a loan for their business - like raising goats, selling vegetables at market or making bricks. Each loan has a picture of the entrepreneur, a description of their business and how they plan to use the loan so you know exactly how your money is being spent - and you get updates letting you know how the business is going. The best part is, when the entrepreneur pays back their loan you get your money back - and Kiva's loans are managed by microfinance institutions on the ground who have a lot of experience doing this, so you can trust that your money is being handled responsibly.I just made a loan to an entrepreneur named Hilda González in Paraguay. They still need another $50.00 to complete their loan request of $100.00. (you can loan as little as $25.00!). Help me get this business off the ground by clicking this link to make a loan to Hilda González too.
It's finally easy to actually do something about poverty - using Kiva I know exactly who my money is loaned to and what they're using it for. And most of all, I know that I'm helping them build a sustainable business that will provide income to feed, clothe, house and educate their family long after my loan is paid back. Join me in changing the world - one loan at a time.
A new kind of philanthropic giving -- particularly among the young and web-savvy -- is facilitated by a non-profit organization called Kiva. Donors are encouraged to give microloans to entrepreneurs in the developing world. Listen to the report on NPR, Yahoo!, Kiva Chronicles - Follow the real-life story of a couple who decided to change the world, one loan at a time. What a great way to help others... If they default on the loan, it becomes a donation? (is it tax deductable?) Their 1st loan was made on April 1st 2005. Loans are made via PAYPAL. kiva.org | inveneo.org | socialedge.org | The GlobalGiving index

sIFR 2.0: Rich Accessible Typography for the Masses
A way to replace fonts inside arbitrary HTML tags (say, H1, H2) with a non-web font? In other words, the user does not have to have the font installed on their system. I wonder if FlashPaper or PDFs will start to use this as well... http://www.mikeindustries.com/sifr/ -Thanks to Ben for the link!

073007 - I recieved the check in the mail (see images above)
073107 - I take the check and printed emails to the bank...
I walk in, the guy asks "Welcome to Bank of America, what can we do for you today?".
I respond, "I'd like to speak with customer service.
BOFA: Whats this in reference to?
Well, I think I gotta fake check. (I hand it to him)
BOFA: Hmmm. Well... Uh... (he looks it over). Lemme go have this checked out.
I wait 5 mins and he comes back with the printed emails I gave him.
BOFA: Yeah, we called the other bank. Sorry about that. Usually the clue is that you have to send money somewhere else, as part of the deal. Anything else we can helpya with?
You can keep the printed emails. Are you guys gonna investigate?
BOFA: Well we can tell you how to file a police report. Our hands are kinda tied since this is outta the country.
(Even tho the 2 people that Im supposed to send money to are in NYC).
Aight, we'll maybe the next one will be real.
BOFA: Have a good day.
Banks arent that interested in protecting the people. This illustrates that point. If you get your credit card # stolen, all they normally do is just give you a new card & #. SCAMMED

A Fox, a Wolf, and a Whole Lot of Bull
(what else can you expect from Fox news?) - The story of how FOX news will spin a topic, even tho the guy answers the tough questions directly - and back it up. Our media is such a joke. I can only hope its not too late for us. This guy is the most well spoken, with the best ideas - that I have ever seen. And he's Republican?!? Wierd! Either way, Ron Paul gets my vote - and more. new businesscards
We are finally working on a new website, and ordered new businesscards today. The older website (prolly done in flash 4) is several years old. New website = new look on biz = new clients.
Social Networks [NETWORKED]
Mark Prasatik of LearningNext hit on the same thought that I had: How is all this social information portable/shareable? Is there a single dashboard interface that unifies all your social networking sites? Is there anyone doing that yet? It also be useful if social networking systems would provide industry specific treemaps or group listing of friends, hobbies, employment history, etc. The wait is on... Ning | Crowdvine
web app cataloge?
Simplespark is low on ratings/comments info, needs a 1-click screenshot of app or website, needs options comparison of selected apps, videos of how to use each app to its fullest potential would be nice. But it has huge potential. It'd also be great to have "how to use" videos for web apps they list.-

R.I.P. Proform c630
So our elliptical died last nite. Joy was using it and had 2 mins left of her workout when the pedals went out of sync. We initially thought the belt may have come lose, or something simple. I opened it up and to my surprise, the cheap axle bolt had cracked off the left side of the wheel. I guess its a goner. Now where to donate it for parts? We bought the thing off Craigslist.org for $150 ($300 new) around October of last year. It was practically brand new - and a good deal for what it was. 7 months for $150 aint bad I guess. But the thing really shoulda lasted longer. That axle bolt is some super cheapo construction. Now we gotta find a better replacement...
